Surrounded by 14,000 foot mountain peaks
A variety of mountain habitats
We often encounter other animals
Ringed by 14,000-foot peaks, RMNP is as inspiring as it is wild. Many of our tours begin at sunrise in the alpine tundra searching for the elusive White-tailed Ptarmigan. Other high alpine species like Brown-capped Rosy-Finch, Canada Jay, Cassin’s Finch, White-crowned Sparrow and Horned Lark can also be found in the thin air above treeline. As we descend, we’ll experience each of the mountain habitats along with their uniquely adapted species such as Northern Pygmy-Owl, Townsend’s Solitaire, Steller’s Jay, American Three-toed Woodpecker, Red-naped Sapsucker, MacGillivray’s Warbler, American Dipper and more. We often find moose, elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, coyote, yellow-bellied marmot, several squirrels, American pika and least chipmunks.
