Tour the Texas Hill Country & Enjoy the Solar Eclipse from the Centerline Path

Four nights at a magical treehouse property during prime time for songbird migration and on the centerline path for the solar eclipse!

Dates: April 4-10, 2024

Departure: Denver/Boulder, Colorado

Tour Location: Utopia, Texas

Duration: 7 Days

Cost: $2250 per person

Your Guide: Peter Burke

Highlights:

  • On the centerline of the eclipse path

  • Early April is peak songbird migration

  • Texas Hill Country is home to Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo

  • Explore the Rio Frio Bat Cave, the second largest in North America

  • Stay in a Spectacular Treehouse!

The Treehouse is located on a family ranch with access to private property along the Frio and Sabinal Rivers. The Treehouse is a five-bedroom home with multiple decks including one built in a giant cypress tree 40 feet above the river. The house has a large kitchen, washer/dryer, hot tub and sauna. The property includes a rope swing over the river, hammock, fire pit, horseshoes and more.

Utopia translates to “Perfect Place,” and this location is indeed perfect for several reasons. Not only does it lie nearly on the centerline, maximizing totality, but an exhaustive analysis of springtime weather on this date across the entire eclipse path indicated that the chances for overcast skies are greatly diminished in the area close to the border with Mexico. Add to that the fact that early April is peak songbird migration, and of course the Texas Hill Country is home to Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo.

The ranch is also home to the Rio Frio Bat Cave, the second largest in North America with an estimated 12 million Mexican free-tailed bats. Our tour includes visiting the bat cave one evening to witness the breathtaking emergence of these nocturnal mammals!

We will have four nights at this magical property during prime time for songbird migration. Both Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo have been found on the property, though we will make birding trips to look for these specialties. Gray Hawk, Zone-tailed Hawk, Painted Bunting and many more Texas specialties can be seen on the ranch!
